Work With Me

My Offerings

Residencies

Have an experienced professional with a wide-ranging career imbed with your students for an in-depth intensive, relationship-building experience. Topics we cover can include performances, private studio development, freelancing, project development and individual sessions. Residencies can range from 1 day to an entire week.

Coaching

One-on-one sessions are an exciting opportunity to drill down into your specific needs and purpose. We can work on your short and long-term goals with respect to your playing. These are great for those preparing for auditions, recitals and competitions, for getting back into horn playing, as well as for those wanting a positive and constructive assessment of their playing.

Clinics

I adore helping horn players identify and respond to challenges in group settings. This is perfect for targeted work in sectionals, masterclasses on specific topics and side-by-side performances in ensembles. Online and in-person options available.

Recitals

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to add diversity your current music offerings, sample some of Margaret’s latest music projects or engage her for a lecture recital. Maybe you’re interested in developing a multi-media or interdisciplinary performance or bringing new music to a new audience. Whatever it is, the possibilities are exciting and endless.

Studio Teaching

Margaret has 1-2 individual spots available to hardworking, talented horn players looking to level up with their technique, develop their musicianship and pursue performance goals. Her students have won scholarships to study music at institutions such as Peabody Conservatory, NYU, the University of Toronto, CalArts, and Belmont University and other students have gone on to participate or minor in music at Duke, Brown, CalTech-Pomona, Florida Tech, Old Dominion, St. Mary’s, the University of Iowa and Hannibal-LeGrange. Margaret’s studio members have gained positions with regional honor bands in Germany and Arizona; with G/T, County Honor, Junior and Senior All-State, and Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra ensembles in Maryland, as well as All-Eastern and All-Nation Bands. She loves working with students who love the horn, love to practice, and want more out of music and the instrument!

Margaret also runs small group classes with students matched according to age and ability. The classes focus on technique cover all aspects of horn playing from breathing, sound creation, and pitch matching to basic horn maintenance and music theory. Class size is limited to 4, with 45 minutes used for group instruction and the remaining 15 minutes will be focused on individual students on a rotating basis.

NEW: Summer Classes!!!

This summer, Margaret is offering several group experiences for beginning and more advanced players. The first set, called Come Practice with Me, is a set of technique classes aimed at high school and amateur adult horn players. Classes are drop-in, à la carte and super reasonable. We’ll be working through Marian Hesse’s Routines for the Student Horn Player as well as other technique routines. It’s a great way to keep yourself in shape and have the accountability (and fun) of a group! Classes will be held Monday mornings at 10am and Wednesday evenings at 7pm in July. These sessions are now closed for 2024. See you next summer!

The second set of classes will take place August 19-23, and are aimed at setting up brand new horn players and those wanting to switch to horn for success before starting the school year. Classes will be held from August 19-23rd, from Monday to Friday and will cover beginning horn everything! Classes may be combined according to scheduling needs.
